Lomong Earns an “A” in Paris

A third-place finish at the US Championships put Lopez Lomong in the driver’s seat for a 1500m berth at Worlds — but only running the “A” standard of 3:35.00 would guarantee him a ticket.

The Sudanese-born speedster took care of business at the Paris Diamond League meeting, clocking 3:34.55 and officially punching his ticket to Moscow. The performance was the 4th-fastest of his career, and just two seconds off his PB of 3:32.20, set in 2010.

Next up will be Monaco on July 19th, the site where Lomong recorded both of his previous sub-3:33 performances. Then, the bid for World Championship hardware will get underway on Wednesday August 14th, with heats in the 1500m.
