Kimbia signs Sean McGorty

Following on from his hugely successful collegiate career, eight-time All-American Sean McGorty of Stanford has turned professional and will be represented by Kimbia.

It marks an exciting recruit for the Kimbia team, as McGorty last weekend became NCAA champion over 5,000m in Eugene, Oregon. A graduate student in management science and engineering, McGorty was runner-up in the same race in 2016 and is one of the most exciting prospects in American distance running.

“I couldn’t be any happier right now,” McGorty told Palo Alto Online after the race. “I don’t think I could end it any better than this.”

In high school, McGorty won the 2013 New Balance Outdoor Championships with a state record 8:45.61 for two miles in Greensboro, N.C. and from his early days at Stanford, he stood out as a massive talent, clocking a sub-4 mile in his first collegiate track race.

After struggling with injury in 2017, McGorty returned better than ever this year, clocking a 1500m PB of 3:40.57 in March en route to his NCAA 5000m title last weekend in Eugene. We look forward to assisting him in his transition to the professional ranks.
