Fernandez Wins Pro Debut in Belgium

German Fernandez hit the ground running in his very first race as a professional, winning the 1500m at the Merksem Athletics Gala in Antwerp Belgium. His time of 3:40.71 bested an international field, but just tenths behind was new teammate Elliott Heath, who clocked 3:41.20 to place second. For Heath, that time was a single second away from a personal best, even in a race that started slower than expected. Fernandez tweeted afterwards:

“A good start to my professional career. Very grateful to be representing Nike and having awesome teammates.”

Andrew Bumbalough was battling a head cold and ran 3:45.33, good for sixth place.
