Cranny and Schweizer book Tokyo tickets

With an outstanding 1-2 performance at the US Olympic Trials on Monday night, Kimbia duo Elise Cranny and Karissa Schweizer booked their place at the Tokyo Games over 5,000m. Pushing the pace in turn over the final mile, the Bowerman Track Club teammates came home well clear with Cranny winning in 15:27.81 with Schweizer second in 15:28.11. Taylor Werner led for much of the race and finished 11th in 15:56.83.

“To have someone that you train with every day and being able to [make the Olympics] together … feed off each other, even Rachel too; having her make her first team,” Cranny told LetsRun. “All of us having competed in college together… It’s just a great group.”

Earlier in the night Sean McGorty survived a scare in the 3000m steeplechase heats, losing several seconds after a pitstop to put his shoe back on. However, he ran with brilliant composure thereafter to reel in many of his rivals and finish ninth in 8:25.95 to advance to the final on time.
