More about Simon Bairu:
I was born to an Eritrean father and an Ethiopian mother. After fleeing the civil war between the two countries my parents made a stop in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That's where I was born. Shortly thereafter we moved to Athens, Greece where my father worked as a truck driver to support our family. Like most father’s, mine wanted the best possible future for my sister and I in terms of education, health care, and an opportunity to make something of ourselves. So, at the age of three, the Bairus were off to...Canada. Although, why we moved to Regina Saskatchewan in mid February is still a mystery to me.
When not running I’m usually on facebook or watching football (cheering on my fantasy football team in our annual team league) and basketball. I’m a big Badger sports fan and love to follow the Miami Heat and San Francisco 49ers. I also enjoy going out to the bars and watching certain people on our team get shut down by girls…..priceless.
When I have a week to spare I head home to Regina, Saskatchewan for a few days. I’m fortunate enough to enjoy life with friends and family while making a living doing what I love most, and for that I thank God for my blessings everyday.
