Delilah: Episode 4 — Fast and Fashionable

It’s hard to imagine living in New York and being sponsored by a fashion-forward company like Puma, but taking a casual approach to style. Yet that’s what Delilah DiCrescenzo does, letting her sponsor’s designs — and her fleet feet — go to work when it comes to making an impression. Behind the scenes, though, the Chicago-native is an accomplished student, and Episode 4 of DELILAH shows the American steeple star both on and off camera.

Bumbalough and DiCrescenzo Highlight KIMbia at Heusden

In the northeast part of Belgium, Andrew Bumbalough clocked 13:21 to take 5th at Heusden’s KBC “Night of Athletics,” traditionally home to one of the top non-Diamond League 5000m races in Europe each year. While the former Georgetown Hoya felt he was in shape to PB, 13:21 is still the second fastest 5000 of his career (by five seconds) and placed him ahead of talented runners Yusuf Biwott and Adrian Blincoe, among others. Tim Nelson had a tough one and finished 17th, after taking 6th last year in a personal best time.

In preparation for her steeple in Lucerne this Thursday, Delilah DiCrescenzo stepped down in distance, then went out and won the women’s 1500m in 4:16.08, outkicking a trio of Dutch runners and a handful of international runners. The day prior, teammate Erin Donohue competed the day in Bottrop Germany. Her time of 2:02.46 was good for fifth place, 1.01 seconds away from the victory.

Delilah: Episode 3 — East Coast Elite

There’s a whole group of people who have helped Delilah DiCrescenzo become a World Championships qualifier, and many of them congregate twice a week at Rutgers University under the guidance of coaching legend Frank Gagliano… better known as “Gags.” Episode 3 of DELILAH rewinds to March to see how Delilah set herself up to be Worlds-bound.

Wondering what’s the funniest thing Gags has said to her? How long the total commute from NYC to NJ is? Don’t be shy: write heytheredelilah@kimbia.net to ask Delilah whatever’s on your mind.

Shalane and Delilah Shine in Diamond League Meets

It was oh-so-close for Shalane Flanagan in Paris, and got-it-by-just-a-smidge for Delilah DiCrescenzo in Birmingham.

Flanagan ran a sizzling 14:45.20 to take fourth in a tough field in Paris, coming within 0.40 of equaling her PB, and just 0.44 of reclaiming the American Record at 5000m. Two days later, across the English Channel, Delilah posted a 9:40.63 to shave 0.43 off of her previous personal best in the steeplechase, en route to a fifth-place finish — her highest in a Diamond League event (or its predecessors, the Golden League and Super Grand Prix). Nudging herself into 13th all-time among Americans — a scant 1.5 seconds out of 7th — the Illinois-native was very much in the hunt for third-position, finishing less than three seconds behind Ireland’s Fionnuala Britton.

Erin Donohue also was in action, running 2:03.92 to shake things out in Kortrijk, Belgium in her first race off the plane. Delilah’s fellow member of the NJNYTC kicked-off her European campaign with a runner-up finish there.
