Delilah: Episode 1 — The US Championships

With 160 meters to go in the US steeplechase final, Delilah DiCrescenzo had a water pit and one woman between her and the career-defining goal of making the US World Championships team. She had hit the gas 60 meters earlier and was closing on the lead pack so quickly that, despite being in only fourth place at the time, she says she was thinking she had a shot at the win. See how it all played out in Episode 1 of Delilah.

2011 USAs: Shalane Wins, Delilah Makes First World Team

The KIMbia performances highlighting this year’s US Championships included four qualifiers to Worlds and one US title, plus one alternate spot and two other top-five finishes.

W10,000m — If you wanted a demonstration of the term “putting on a clinic,” Shalane Flanagan delivered one in the 10,000m, taking the lead almost immediately and methodically clipping off 74-second laps. No other athlete in the field tried seriously to match her pace, and she ended up soloing an extremely impressive 30:59.97 to dominate the field and claim yet another US title. That mark is the 6th-fastest American performance ever.

M10,000mMatt Tegenkamp, possessor of the world-class gear-change that netted him 4th-place and 8th-place finishes at previous World Championships, was poised to strike late in a very pedestrian 10,000m. Read the full article

KIMbia, Diamond League New York in New York Times

It may be just a pair of “our” legs in the New York Times, but what a speedy set they are. The Times sent out a reporter named Michael Tanier to cover six professional sporting events in the New York area in just twenty-four hours, and the New York Diamond League stop was on his itinerary. The lens of his photographer captured Delilah DiCrescenzo navigating the water jump — and showcasing her Puma footwear for the camera.

The race may not have been everything Delilah was hoping for — 9th in 9:50.61 — she still sits as the 7th-seed at the upcoming US Championships, and defeated two higher-seeded women in New York.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Lineth Chepkurui won the Kenyan Armed Forces 5000m over Sharon Cherop (third at this year’s Boston Marathon), a win of determination for the star who continues to battle leg pain.
