Chris Solinsky opened his year with a 7:53, 3rd-place run at the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame. His post-race thoughts:
Today didn’t go too well. I ran 753.9 and didn’t feel good at all. I couldn’t settle into a rhythm at all and felt as though I was pressing the entire way. I lead from 1100 until 300 to go, when Jonathon Riley kicked past me. I let the race get away from me the last 75 meters and was nipped at the line by Kurt Benniger.
Overall, if this is a bad day, I’ll take it. I know that the training is there, and later in the year will be much stronger, so to open my first race at 7:53 after not racing for 6 months (which is the longest I’ve ever gone without racing), I can be, not happy, but content that I’m
on the right track for the Trials. I would much rather be sharp and rolling in June than to be feeling on top of the world now! In two weeks we are heading to Boston for the indoor championships and I’m expecting a much better result!
